What these pages keep, what they never collect, and which outside services they use. Last updated October 13, 2026.
The short version
No sign-in and no accounts. Nobody makes an account or logs in.
No ads, and no tracking. These pages do not show ads, and do not use analytics or visit counters.
Nothing you do is sent to us. There is no server collecting answers, scores, names, sound or files. Everything happens inside your own browser.
What stays on your device
Three choices are saved in this browser (in its local storage), so every page looks the way you like next time:
simulatorColors: Dark, Light or High contrast
simulatorText: Normal or Large text
simulatorFont: the font you picked
That is all that is saved. Clearing your browser's data for this site removes them.
Quiz and game scores are not saved. They are kept only while the page is open, and they are gone when the page is reloaded or closed.
The name typed in the "Your name" box is not saved either.
Microphone, tab sharing and your own files
The microphone turns on only when you press Turn on microphone, and your browser asks your permission first.
The sound is changed inside your browser and played straight to your headphones. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
Sharing a tab happens only when you press Connect the sound to use a YouTube video. The browser asks what to share. The page uses that tab's sound, and looks at its picture only to check that the right tab was shared.
Nothing is recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
Your own files. A sound or video file you choose plays from your own computer. It is never uploaded.
Score reports and links
Score reports. A name typed in the "Your name" box appears only on the score report on your screen, and on the copy you print or save as a PDF.
Where that copy goes is up to you, for example when you upload it to your class.
The online report (Parts of the Ear). The score report has a QR code. The whole report, with the name, date and scores, is written inside the link itself.
Nothing is stored on a server, but anyone who has the link or scans the code can see that report, so share it only with your teacher.
Setup links (Hearing Loss Simulator). A teacher's "Copy a link to this setup" link holds only the simulator's settings, such as the faders and the background noise. No names, sound or scores.
Outside services
The pages themselves come from GitHub. A few parts load something from another company. When that happens, your browser connects to that company,
which can see the usual things any website sees, such as your internet address and browser type.
Google Fonts. Fonts from Google download only when someone opens the Font menu or picks one of its Google fonts. (Each page gets the connection ready in advance, so a chosen font loads quickly, but nothing is downloaded until then.)
Google Fonts privacy.
jsDelivr. The OpenDyslexic font comes with the site. Only if the site's own copy cannot be used does the browser get it from jsDelivr instead.
jsDelivr privacy policy.
YouTube. When they are opened online, both simulator pages show a short YouTube video (what a hearing test looks like, and an X-ray of an implant going in), so YouTube's player loads with the page.
YouTube is also used when someone connects a YouTube video to a simulator.
Google privacy policy (it covers YouTube).
cdnjs (Cloudflare). The Parts of the Ear score report downloads a small QR code maker from cdnjs the first time the report is opened. The QR code itself is made inside your browser; the report is not sent to cdnjs.
Cloudflare privacy policy.
A note for teachers
These pages ask students for no personal information and need no accounts. Even so, please check your district's student data privacy rules before assigning them,
such as an approved-site list. In Illinois that includes the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA). For students under 13, the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) also applies to sites that collect personal information.
